When snail mail was popular, it was not uncommon to find a letter or two asking for money for an unknown company or product. Now with advances in technology and email replacing snail mail, it is not uncommon to open your email to find several scam emails sitting there waiting for you to reply to them.

Over the years, some email scams have become timeless and extremely popular. Here’s a look at the top scam emails.

Death of a Relative

The most popular email scam is one that claims a relative or friend in a remote area of the world has passed away and left you money. All you have to do is reply to the email and send X amount of money in order to receive the millions of dollars the relative or friend left you.

Stranded Friend in a Foreign Country

Another popular email scam is one that sends a letter to all people on your email contact list. It tells you a story about how your friend is in a foreign country, has been mugged and robbed and now can’t get home. It goes on to ask you to Western Union money to them so they can get home.

Winning a Lottery or Prize

Emails that claim that you won millions or even billions in a lottery from another country are another popular email scam. The email will show an official looking ticket and tell you that you won the lottery and have to claim the prize by a certain date. It asks for personal information such as social security number, address and other information so they can send you your prize.

These three email scams are the most popular but as technology grows the list of popular email scams is sure to grow even longer.

Chances are you’ve received an email from a bank that you’ve never used asking you to log into your account and update your information. While this might seem a bit strange, this type of email is actually called a phishing scam.

A phishing scam is an elaborate email system that works to try and collect personal information from unsuspecting Internet users by pretending to be real companies requesting the information. When people provide the information on the website, it actually goes to someone who uses it to steal your identity.

If you are worried about falling victim to one of these email scams, here’s a look at some things you can do to make sure you avoid them.

Don’t Provide Personal Information Over the Internet

If you get an email that asks you to update your personal information at a bank or website, don’t do it. Instead, call the actual bank or website and ask if they sent the email. Chances are they didn’t and it’s a phishing scam. Most companies and websites will not email you asking for your personal information.

Watch What Links You Click

Many phishing scams look like real emails but when you click on the link to update your information it takes you to a different website from the company’s real website. You can see what website a link will take you to by hovering over the link and seeing what address it shows you at the bottom of the screen. If it looks suspicious don’t click on it and delete the email right away.

Phishing scams are becoming more and more popular. However, by using common sense you can avoid falling victim to them and protect your personal identity.

Whether you are a graphic designer or a casual Internet user you know how bad it can be if you accidently download a virus onto your computer. A computer virus can completely destroy data, documents and potentially rend a computer useless. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to make sure that you keep your computer virus free and working properly.

Don’t Download Unknown Items

Most viruses get onto your computer by accidently downloading them. This can be done by downloading a program that looks safe but really isn’t. The best way to avoid getting a virus onto your computer is to avoid downloading any software or programs that you are not 100% sure is safe.

Only Visit Trusted Sites

Another common ways viruses get onto your computer is by visiting an infected website where the virus is downloaded onto your computer. Try to only visit websites that you know are safe and virus free. This can be hard as sometimes websites can be safe but are attacked by hackers or viruses and infect your computer.

Run a Regular Virus Scan

Even though you may use caution while surfing the Internet, you will still need to make sure there are no viruses on your computer. To make sure your computer is virus free you will want to run a virus scan at least once a month. This will make sure your system is free and clear, and fix any viruses that may have found their way onto your computer.

When prospective clients find your website, your main goal should be to make them stay as long as possible. People who surf your website for a while tend to return, will recommend your site to others and it will help you drive traffic. As you work with your web designer to develop your website, there are things you can use that will help you draw more traffic and drive revenue.

1) Know Your Audience

If you are targeting a young female demographic, then include design aspects that your particular audience will appreciate. Men ages 41 to 65 will want different features on a website than women ages 18 to 25. If you want to increase your web traffic, then you need to find out what your audience wants to see and give it to them.

2) Be Organized

A good website is just like a series of magazine advertisements in that each page deals with one particular item. Limit each web page to one topic, and make sure the content on each web page is easy to read and understand. If you try and do too much on a single page, it will confuse readers and discourage repeat traffic.

3) Make It Easy On The Eyes

Driving traffic to your website requires a lot of Internet posting and networking. Once you get the traffic, you keep it by making your site easy on the eyes. Avoid bright or harsh colors, and make the layout of your site simple to understand.

A website should be inviting to people so that it can generate a high traffic volume. Keep your site simple, but effective.

A good website can be the key to driving more revenue to your company’s bottom line. While many business people are aware of the importance of a website, they are sometimes confused as to why a website can benefit a business. A well-designed website can be a valuable marketing tool that becomes the cornerstone of a successful web presence.

1) Accurate Company Information

The advantage of the Internet is that it can get information to millions of people all over the world at the same time. But this can also be a disadavantage if that information is inaccurate. By having your own official website, you can help to endorse the accurate information available about your company and refute the inaccurate information. It gives customers, prospects and the media a place to go to get accurate information about your company.

2) Marketing Message

Your company website becomes the anchor for your company marketing message. You can create any kind of message you like, and then offer supporting web pages to help people understand the benefits of your company’s product or service. The benefit of your own website is that it can be a powerful commercial for your company that reaches people all over the world.

3) Contact Information

When people are looking to contact your company, your website can be a public directory that drives interested parties to your organization. Any important contact information that people need in order to do business with your company is accurately reflected on your company website.

A company website is the anchor of your organization’s web presence, and it offers many marketing benefits at a low cost to you.

A lot of people don’t realize it, but just as there are conventions of etiquette in face to face conversations, there are etiquette conventions across the internet. Discussion boards are a great way for people to interact across a wide range of topics. There are many communities across the internet which have had humble beginnings as a small discussion forum.

Keep the following in mind when taking part in a discussion forum.

Use nice language. Nobody likes to be sworn at in real life, and they don’t like to be sworn at over the internet either. Most discussion boards have moderators who basically police everyone. If you start using foul language you will very likely get kicked out.

Attacking people over the internet has become more and more common. It is very easy for someone to say what is on his or her mind when they are in the safety of their home and can verbally abuse people in relative anonymity. As with the use of bad language, attacking people will do you no good and will probably get you kicked off the discussion board.

Read the terms and condition of the discussion board. This way you can familiarize yourself with what is expected on contributors.

Have a browse and get to know the topics of conversation before posting. Random topics of conversation which are way off topic may not be well received.

Write clearly using structured language with appropriate spelling and grammar. Always proofread before you hit “submit” on a post.

Always remember to treat people with respect on a discussion board.

Having a website to promote yourself or your business is a great way to get your name out there. But when it comes to engaging with your customers or even potential customers, a website and email may feel a bit impersonal for some.

Designing your website to include a discussion board could be a useful way to interact with your current and potential customers. This can be used in place of the more traditional email or contact form methods of communication which seems very one sided for many. Many customers feel they are talking to brick walls when it comes to such methods, with many not receiving timely responses to their queries.

Adding a discussion board to your websites shows people that you are more open to communication and are not afraid of posting answers and interacting with customers in a public forum. This behavior instills a greater level of trust in current and potential customers, rather than just having email or a contact form.

Discussion boards on business websites also allow for customers to be in contact with each other. This may not seem very appealing or even relevant, but it could provide a space for current customers to provide positive feedback, which in turn grabs the attention of any potential customers out there. If a current customer posts something good to show about something you have recently done for them, a potential customer can then respond to this customer asking for further details.

All of the above are good examples of how a discussion board on your business website can enhance, promote and provide information to all customers.

Technology is constantly evolving. Just when you think things may settle down, something new is launched onto the market. Microsoft is no stranger to this way of life. With several version of operating systems launched over the past several years, they are constantly updating and providing new concepts.

Recently, Microsoft has unveiled to the world its next foray into the world of operating systems. Mango is its name – at least for the time being, and it brings with it many promises. These promises are very similar to promises which went along with previous Microsoft operating system releases. But will it be able to deliver?

Mango is an operating designed for specifically for smartphones. This could be a welcome change for those already using smartphones with other operating systems. Mango boasts over 500 new features for phone users which will take the user experience of a smartphone to a whole new level.

The new features that Mango has to offer revolve heavily around the operating system designing itself on the person and his or her social network, and not solely on the applications that the person uses. Social networking sites are able to be used in one conversation thread instead of individually, and are able to be connected to a person’s contact card. Another strong feature of the new operating system is hands-free messaging. There is built in text recognition available, making texting on the go much more safe.

Good news for existing Window 7 smart phone operating systems users. These people will be provided with a free upgrade which should be available on the market later this year.

But how? How do you transform a group that works on different systems and sometimes in different locations into a team that works to a common goal?

Technology

Technology has gone so far that there are literally hundreds of operating systems being used on millions of workstations worldwide. But that doesn’t help companies. All they want is a way for their workstations to be able to interface with each other and work towards that common goal while making sure they stay secure.

Building a Framework

When you build anything, you always start with a plan. Designers have been working with a plan for that almost since computers became popular. The Web is one of the results along with the software developed for the Web and languages in programming that can understand other programs. Many of the programs that were originally for the PC can now be found on a Mac.

Running the Show

Many programs can be run over the Web, but there are times when a system needs to be able to work independently of the Web. For this, the idea of a mainframe was invented. The idea of the mainframe was that multiple workstations would be able to work together. Some of the mainframes are also connected to the Web, thus increasing the potential of the system. The next generation of computers will have greater compatibility than today’s.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques are very important for optimizing a website and it is an integral component of any web design. SEO helps the website in getting higher ranks and provide more visibility and online presence. Therefore SEO friendly website is the best option for more traffic and profit. The website should have unique and quality content. Along with the content, the web page should have right graphics that blend well with the text.

The layout, website structure, linking between pages, and other media such as videos and images should be SEO friendly. A proper and optimized SEO friendly web page or website include meta-tag optimization, attractive design elements, correct keywords, strategic linking, alt tag optimization, and finally structure optimization. The website should not be loaded with heavy graphics or flash elements as it takes a lot of time to load. Therefore it is very important to design a website lighter and also reduce the loading time.

The main trick lies in maintaining the balance between the graphics part and the content part. The design should be visually appealing and the visitors should not lose interest while browsing. The layout should be properly selected and should provide enough space for additional contents. Adding large number of quality contents with proper keyword helps the search engine to spot the website easily. Some of the things that should be considered while using SEO are keyword density, using proper tags in HTML, and consistent Meta tag. Websites designed with SEO rules are always easily spotted by the search engines.
